You will look and feel like yourself, just on a really, really good day!‘, Sarah – Jane Froom, European Makeup Artist

Bare Escentuals believe that beauty starts from within. The ‘Make Under’ is a step by step application that allows you to discover your natural beauty through products that enhance every feature at its best. It focuses on achieving a flawless complexion by using the award-winning bareMinerals® SPF15 Foundation as well as teaching signature bareMinerals application techniques for quick and easy coverage.

Being a gal who’s always on the hunt for the perfect finish I jumped at the chance to have my very own Make Under experience. Initially I couldn’t help but worry, how will it turn out? Will I look deathly pale? Should I take my own makeup to slap on more layers after? And the most pressing question, how can just a powder possibly create that flawless a finish on my oil slick of a boat race! As you can imagine I turned up to my Make Under very apprehensive but excited to try new products. I was introduced to my make up artist who asked me a few questions about my skin to gauge which foundation would suit me before she applied the bareMinerals Prime Time Oil Control Primer to my skin – and I must say I fell in love with this primer! It’s really light and doesn’t feel like your adding extra product to the skin as it absorbs quickly leaving a smooth surface to work on.

The first step of the bareMinerals make-under is choosing the desired finish; bareMinerals SPF 15 Original Foundation (£24) gives a naturally luminous finish or bareMinerals SPF15 Matte Foundation (£25) eliminates shine to give a naturally matte finish. Being on the more oily side of normal skin I opted for the matte finish in the shade Fairly Light, as I had an afternoon of work ahead of me, I really wanted to give this ‘miracle’ powder a run for it’s money as I tend to get very oily by the end of the day, so Matte was the perfect choice! The powder was applied to one side of my face so I could see the difference, wow it really did look as flawless as my liquid foundation!! I was then encouraged to apply the other side myself and this is where, I think, this experience is fab. Half the reason I had never thought to use bareMinerals is because I simply don’t know how to apply it, the fact every product is a loose powder really throws me off! But with the guidance of my artist, all it took was the right brush, the bareMinerals Flawless Face Application Brush, paired with the bareMinerals simple application technique of: SWIRL the product in the lid of the powder, TAP off the excess, BUFF into the skin! This can be repeated until you get your desired level of coverage.

Next we added warmth to the skin with the bareMinerals All Over Face Colour in Warmth, now this looks quite dark in the pan but with a light hand it’s very fair on the skin and can be built up to achieve the desired effect. I was told to apply with the Flawless Face Application Brush in the shape of the number 3 down the side of the face from the temples, round to the cheek bones and round down to the jawline, this creates a contour effect which really helps to slim down the face, perfect! bareMinerals Blush in the shade Beauty was then added to the apples of the cheeks to brighten my complexion. This was all set with a very light dusting of bareMinerals Original Mineral Veil and it does exactly what it says on the tin! A really light veil of powder which doesn’t add any weight to your makeup it just softens your complexion and helps with oil control throughout the day, great for touch ups through the summer months. Now this may sound like a lot of product but being that it’s mineral make up it’s unbelievably light on the skin as well as actually benefiting the skin with its mineral ingredients. What’s not to love?!

And here’s the finished look!

I think you’ll agree the finish is fantastic and not too much in terms of product – no cake face here and all this from a powder! I really did feel like my skin had never looked so radiant and healthy and loved how natural it all looked. I think this is the perfect make up range for the warmer months as you can work with as much or as little as you want and still get a great, natural looking, flawless finish – I couldn’t wait to start recreating the look myself.
