Get the look: Anna Friel

Since taking on the role of Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Anna has found her inner siren. Stepping out each night after a performance looking decidedly unfrazzled is no easy task, yet Anna pulls it off perfectly. Obviously comparisons will be drawn with Audrey Hepburn but Anna is showing she’s got what it takes with perfect hair and make up time after time.
Her look is very 1950s, and incredibly striking as well as being wonderfully easy to recreate.
Face

Start with a good base, to wear a bold lipstick you need good skin. Make sure you use a good cleanser everyday. After moisturising and before applying foundation use a primer, preferably one with light reflecting particles to give the skin a gentle glow. Follow with a good quality foundation, it’s not about caking the face in make up, but having a gentle wash to even out skin tone. So opt for a fluid foundation and a light to medium coverage, avoid a foundation with orange tones. Follow with a dusting of powder for a true Hollywood look. Powder does not have to be heavy, go for a translucent powder, this will set the foundation give an airbrushed finish and diminish shine.

Once you’ve prepped, primed, foundationed and powdered, it’s time for glow and blush. Dab a highlighter across the apples of the cheeks and smudge up the cheek bone. Try and go for a golden shade, pinks are good but not right for this look. Then for blusher pick an apricot shade. Again it’s a gentle colour, a couple of sweeps up the cheek bone line and that will be plenty.
Eyes

There is almost no shadow on the eyelid. We suggest going for a very soft dove grey to give a slight colour. Groom brows, but don’t overly fill, they should look more natural. Eyeliner is key, and using a black eyeliner, line the top lash line and flick out the corner very slightly. Then comes lashings of mascara. You want your lashes to fan out and be longer at the outer corners so spend more time coating these lashes. If you feel like cheating then grab yourself a pair of false eyelashes.
Lips
Images left to right: Aromessence lip balm, £12, Decleor. Rouge Interdit lip liner in lip rouge, £13.20, Givenchy. Rouge Interdit lipstick in Rouge Cancan, £17.62, Givenchy.
Obviously the most statement part about this look are the lips. First prep, using that old trick of rubbing your lips with a toothbrush will soften them up and remove dead skin. Then follow with a lip balm and add a touch of concealer over the lips. Take your lip liner in a bold red, follow your lip line carefully and shade the line into your lips slightly. Grab your red lipstick in the same shade and using a lip brush work the colour onto your lips and blend into the liner.
Finishing touch
For the hair throw in some medium barrel heated rollers spritz with hairspray and away you go.
Perfection!
