How to… create dewy skin
You may have noticed that the models of the moment are sporting a rather fresh faced, healthy glow. Dewy skin has been around for awhile, but this summer it’s going to be the hottest beauty look. You want a delicate, natural airbrushed glow and you want to avoid looking greasy or sweaty. Here are our top tips for a dewy look, and our favourite products to achieve it:
The base
Left to right: Purite exfoliant, £26.50, Decleor, Dramatically different moisturising lotion, £27.00, Clinique, Lucidity Light-diffusing makeup, £24.50, Estee Lauder.
For a flawless finish you need to make sure that your skin is in good condition to begin with, use an exfoliator to buff away dead skin cells before moisturising. Follow with a quick absorbing moisturiser such as Clinique’s Dramatically Different Moisturiser, which is perfect for combination and dry skins. The next and hardest step is choosing your foundation. For dewy skin it is worth investing in a foundation with light reflecting particles, opt for a light to medium coverage one so that it looks natural and not heavy. We love Estee Lauder’s Lucidity light-diffusing make up, it has smooth texture that goes on beautifully. The trick with your foundation is to really rub it in, as you would a moisturiser, don’t just leave it on the skin, work it into your face with your fingertips for an even finish. If you want to keep your normal foundation, or you want a more intense sheen – perfect for a night out, you can still achieve a dewy base by applying an illuminator all over the face after moisturising and before applying your foundation, just use a small amount and apply evenly, we rate Clinique’s Up-lighting liquid illuminator.
Illumination
Left to right: Up-lighting illuminator, £18.50, Clinique, High Beam, £17.50, Benefit, Complexion Touche Blush, £27.00, Yves Saint Laurent.
Your next stage is the most important stage in the dewy process, you will need to apply your concealer, to cover blemishes and dark circles. Following this apply a highlighter to your cheekbones, the bridge of your nose, your cupid’s bow (above your top lip), a dab on your chin and a dab on the centre of your forehead and then blend outwards. To make your eyes look larger and brighter apply highlighter to the inner and outer corners of your eyes. After you’ve highlighted then apply a peach or rose blush to the apples of your cheeks.
The Final touch
Left to right: Complexion matt & radiant pressed powder, £30.00, Yves Saint Laurent, Michael Kors eyeshadow duo, £22.00, Estee Lauder, Spin-On lacquer gloss, £20.50, Dior.
You now want to set your look with powder, apply a light powder with a gentle sheen to your chin, nose, forehead and under the eyes, Yves Saint Laurent’s Complexion matt & radiant powder is a handbag must. To keep the natural look alive, apply a gold/bronze eye shadow over the lids, lips should be kept peachy and warm with a lick of gloss. You should now have beautiful, radiant, dewy skin… who needs airbrushing?!
