It is now just days until my wedding and like any bride in England I have begun a dysfunctional relationship with the five day forecast. It looks like rain… Oh why me? Is it a sign? What does it mean? Well, if the BBC is to be relied upon, drinks on the terrace are out and the hog roast man better bring an umbrella.
There’s just a few days to go before the ‘I dos’ and if there’s one thing I’ve learned about planning a wedding it’s this: everyone, from your Mum to the postman has an opinion on everything. From flowers and transport to food and when you do the speeches, so it can be hard to keep your vision for the day in tact.
So we decided to draft in wedding and event designer, Rebecca Holt of Harlequin&Romance, to share some advice on how to make sure your wedding is just as you dreamed it.
Happily, I have spent lots of time in Sussex recently tying up the last few details of the wedding and meeting the florist was this weekend’s box to tick. The little florist we chose was recommended by a friend, as all the best things are, and now I’m passing on the recommendation to anyone who happens to be getting married in the local area. Shimizu is a bijoux little florist’s shop on the High Street in Hastings Old Town. Nestled among antiques shops and organic bakeries, it is run by the helpful and smiley Mao – who even managed to fill my flower-shy fiancé with enthusiasm.
The big day is fast approaching – which is why my Mother has been hearing a little more from me but you are hearing a little less. So I hope this post will go some way to making up for it.

I visited the wedding list department on the home floor at Oxford Street to start putting together my wish list. I was greeted by a smiley and smartly dressed concierge, who talked me through the process and joined me scanning gifts around the store, with the help of a little ‘how to’ booklet suggesting the things I might want to consider.
My colleagues may be fooled into thinking I’ve had a few long sleeps, given up wine and stress and started following a macrobiotic diet. But they’d be wrong – I’ve simply had my first pumpkin peel at DestinationSkin and I can highly recommend it.
It certainly stings a little when it’s on – that’s the acid getting to work but it leaves your skin feeling nicely taut and baby fresh. For me, it out does any facial I have ever had for its immediate effect on the condition of your skin.
