The best Christmas presents for kids

Buying presents for kids is a bit like mind reading. The fear that they unwrap the gift, their face drops and they complain it’s not exactly the thing they wanted is very real. Fortunately, we at House of Fraser are good at mind reading. Our Christmas elves have been up and down the aisles scouting out the gifts that’ll spark only the very best reactions – so you can consider that elusive gifting conundrum solved. Allow us to introduce you to the best Christmas presents for kids. And relax…

The starting point for any great kids’ Christmas is a new toy. This year, their new favourite soft toy comes in the form of a realistic Blue Planet critter or a heart-melting character from the wintery Disney film of the year (we don’t need to tell you which one).

With their main Christmas presents, you want ones that’ll have life well beyond Boxing Day. A crafty kit will provide hours of entertainment and a drone or game is perfect for when friends come over. Choose toys that’ll be useful for a myriad of situations, such as squirters for the bath or a sticker set for travelling. Cool tumblers and stationery will make school times actually fun.

Don’t forget clothes and accessories as great gifts. We all remember that feeling when we loved and loved our uber-cool pair of trainers or trendy sweater. A cute dress, never-want-to-take-off sweatshirt or really fun wellies will go down a treat we reckon – especially if they’re embellished with the kingdom of Arendelle’s most famous two sisters.

It’s fine for stocking fillers to have less longevity than big presents but having said that, useful socks and accessories for the kids’ rooms make great stuffers. Don’t feel you have to spend masses on stockings as this early on the Christmas Day we suspect excitement will be high whatever the gift. A bulging stocking is part of the fun, so we recommend picking little treats in different shapes and sizes.

If you’re gifting for babies, a present is, needless to say, as much for the parent as it is for the little one. Along with an adorable rattle or teddy, consider pretty nursery accessories which will always go down a dream.

The obvious temptation is for kids to rip open all their presents at once. But if you can, encourage them to open one or two each child in turn, which will help calm any hyper moods and enable each present to be properly appreciated – especially important if the gift giver is there. When it comes to your own gifts however, we give you full permission to tear them all open at once. That comes as a given. You did do all the tricky kids’ gift buying, after all.
