Perfecting your Decor Style

If this is your first Christmas in your own place, or if you just fancy a whole new look, choosing decorations might seem like a daunting task. Where do you even begin?! Not to worry, we’re sharing our top tips to help with the deciding process, perfect for when you’re moving into a new home!

  1. Suit your Christmas Décor to your Home

Your personal style in your home is a huge factor when choosing your Christmas decorations. If your home décor is very modern and pretty, our High Society theme might be just the one for you! The Enchanted Forest theme is perfect for anyone who loves natural and traditional décor. This particularly applies if you’ve just moved in somewhere. Helen from Design Hunter stresses the importance of being comfortable before rushing out to buy. ‘Think about how you actually want to live in the space before you rush in and make big DIY or decorating decisions.’ Check out her site, or follow her on Twitter @designhunter_uk

  1. Save your space

It’s important that you don’t clutter your working area, if you work from home or even when preparing for that Christmas dinner recipe you’ve been perfecting for weeks. Helen enjoys an open plan layout: ‘I’m able to prepare food in the kitchen area while chatting to guests who’ve come over for dinner’. Keeping this area clean and relatively free from decoration madness will ensure you can still get on with day-to-day life as well as the festive fun! Take into consideration how big your room is, a large Christmas Tree might drown your room and make your space feel smaller. Take a look at our Christmas Tree Buying Guide which will help you choose the perfect tree for your room.

  1. Let the little ones have a say

So we all want THAT designer tree, but if kiddies are in your life, have them join in on the décor fun. Let them choose their very own tree decorations from our fun and fabulous Frosty theme, or let them put the topper on the tree and watch the smiles on their faces!

  1. Do what feels right

Christmas only comes around once a year; if this isn’t the time to be bold then when is? Don’t be afraid to go a little crazy with the decorations if you fancy something a little different. Our Black Magic theme is perfect for those who love the decadence and drama of the Christmas season. Don’t be afraid to go a little crazy with the decs. Sarah from Life in a Breakdown says ‘when I first moved into my house, I wish I had been a little more adventurous with my style. Some people manage the showroom look, but most of us can’t. Your home is where you live, where you relax, so just make sure it feels right to you and forget what anyone else says.’ You can follow Sarah @Life_BreakDown and check out her blog at

  1. Have fun with it!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, so don’t get bogged down with stress, just have fun with it, and enjoy your first Christmas in your new Home!
