However many you might be feeding this Christmas, remember to think about your dining table ahead of the celebrations to avoid any last-minute stress.
So before you add any festive touches to the table, make sure you’ve covered the essentials:
Planning a big Christmas get-together? One thing that matters the most is the size of your dining table. If you need an extending table, think about which room you’ll eat in. Short on space in the dining room? Try setting up the table in the living room, with the Christmas tree and gifts on display – it will feel even more festive.
We all know that Christmas dinner can last forever… it’s almost 5pm and you’ve only just started pudding! Well, make sure everyone’s sat comfortably on suitable chairs. You can add some stools if you need to squeeze in one or two nephews at the table…
The Seating Plan
A seating plan is essential if you celebrate Christmas with the whole family. Suggest a few or your guests to change places after the main course so everyone can have the chance to catch up and chat. Plus, hand-written place cards will add a personal touch to your table – place them on top of your napkins so your guests can see them easily.
Protect the Table
Finally, before you get on with your Christmas table layout, we suggest you protect your table from any sauce spills, hot dishes or candle wax. Use a rubber-like protector and slip it under your table cloth. Or place some table mats of different colours to create a Christmas colour scheme if you’re not using a table cloth.
