Rustic picnics & sun-kissed bliss
This week in the office, we’ve been extolling the virtues of rustic summer picnics – fresh air, fresher food and good company – you get the quaint English picture.
Our whimsical debate around the tastiest summer salads and picnic snacks has seen us ignoring the grey clouds out the window and burying our heads in the proverbial (rain drenched) sand. But less than reliable weather aside, it’s fair to say that we deluded Brits sure know how to picnic!
Here is one of our favourite summer pic-nic-tips courtesy of the gorgeous Valentine Warner – perfect to get you in the mood for summer…
Valentine’s Picnic Crudite Loaf:
- Carve the top off a fresh loaf of bread
- Hollow out the insides
- Load the newly made edible picnic box with a selection of mouth-wateringly fresh picnic goodies.
- Find a suitably picturesque venue
- Spread your picnic rugs and cushions, then pop open the Champagne

Delicious! Not to mention healthy, virtuous and so romantic we’ve all gone a bit Delia (no offence Valentine)…
If the weather’s bad? Griddle.
Emulate the outdoor BBQ, indoors, with our current superhero of the kitchen – the cast iron griddle. A griddled chicken salad ticks all our low-cal, low-fat boxes whilst still creating tremendous flavour.
Not only do you feel like a pro when wielding its solid, masculine bulk, it’s far healthier than pan frying and gives you that gorgeous charcoal taste – all without the faffiness of a bar-b!
