Barbour & Land Rover: An Interview with Lawrence Dallaglio

Instagram_1-1

Two big brands have come together to make something pretty epic – Barbour and Land Rover have created a rugby range for AW15, with Lawrence Dallaglio as the face. Could this be any bigger? A sportier twist to the classic Barbour brand, we discuss the partnership with Lawrence and his favourites from the collection…

Lawrence, you’ve been supporting the launch of Barbour for Land Rover Rugby Range for AW15. What did you like about the collection and are there any stand out pieces for you?

The collection offers plenty of choice from waxes to quilts to gilets alongside shirts polos and accessories. It’s well designed, practical and versatile and designed with the rugby spectator in mind – all pieces that you could easily wear to a rugby match whether it’s Twickenham or watching your kids play at the local rugby club. It gives customers lots to choose from and plenty of options depending on the weather! A favourite piece of mine is the Castlefield Zip thru – so versatile and can be worn with jeans or trousers or under a jacket. It’s a great smart casual piece.

When you’re off duty, what do you look for when choosing what to wear at a rugby match?

It has to be practical, warm, comfortable and easy to wear. The Barbour wax jacket is a great piece of kit. It keeps you warm and dry and the large bellows pockets offer all the pocket space you need for gloves, keys, mobile phone, money etc. Underneath the jacket, it’s all about layers – a polo shirt or shirt under knitwear always works well and looks the part whether you wear with jeans or chinos.

Why do you think Barbour and Land Rover work well together?

Both are British brands with a great heritage. They’re quite similar in that they both began by designing functional and practical products – Barbour with its oilskins to protect the fishermen and Land Rover with its all-terrain 4 wheel drive Defender. Both brands have great attention to detail which you can see in the design of their vehicles and the Barbour for Land Rover clothing range. It’s this attention to detail and the care that goes into making the products that makes both brands stand out. For me, it’s a natural partnership and it’s been great to play a part in promoting the Barbour for Land Rover rugby range.

You are going to be making a personal appearance in House of Fraser and the Highlands on 8 September. What will you be doing?

I’m looking forward to meeting and chatting with customers in these stores and to signing some rugby balls for them. The public always have some great questions, so it will be good to chat about rugby and raise awareness for the new Barbour for Land Rover collection. With the rugby season about to start, it’s the perfect time to stock up on rugby wardrobe essentials.

Visit Lawrence in Oxford Street on Tuesday 8th September from 10.30am – 12.30pm! The first 15 customers will receive a Barbour branded rugby ball which Lawrence will sign when you meet him. Get there quickly!

My name's Bianca, Menswear Editor. Contrary to belief, I love Eastenders but wasn't named after the character... heyday of hoops and ponytail quickly erased from memory. Times have changed (thankfully) and although I love beauty, I equally love a good men's oxford shirt and jacket or two, for myself of course. You'll now find me flicking through men's magazine pages and my favourites list is increasingly becoming male dominated. Dare I say, there's a lot to learn from their style...
