Those lovely lay-ins are now a thing of the past – that’s right, it’s time to forget the festivities and embrace the New Year with open arms. I know it’s easier said then done, as I’m also suffering from a bad case of the ‘January blues’… but do you know what might make you feel a wee bit better? How about a few sharp work staples to make the dreaded morning commute a more stylish affair?

I know hitting the snooze button is a lot more tempting that donning a razor-sharp suit, but I’m going to try and do my best to cheer you up with a few work essentials. We’re all feeling a tad deflated, and treating yourself to a new wardrobe might make your usual routine easier to bear.

1. The Suit – Reliable black is great, but a dark grey suit offers a slick alternative to this fail safe hue. Try a versatile charcoal two-piece with a slim stripe for a contemporary take on tailoring. I love Howick’s River Suit Jacket & Trousers – the perfect suit for the office and evening.

2. The Bag – A good, hard-wearing briefcase will stand the test of time and will ensure your documents remain flawless when you’re on the move. Sumptuously soft leather looks just as good when it’s battered and bruised as it does brand new. This satchel-inspired briefcase by Hidesign is worth every penny.

3. The Footwear – shoes in an eye-catching patent or glossy leather finish will add an eye-catching touch to your everyday outfit. Loafers are a must this season and brogues remain popular, but try a simple lace-up for the boardroom. Bertie has a varied selection that are sure to please.
