Follow my report below straight from the red carpet of Cannes on How to achieve the Cannes Film Festival look for less!
From the moment I arrived in Cannes it was an adventure. I was not prepared for the hordes of people onLa Croisette– the main boulevard running between the super hotels and the waterfront. It seems people travel from far and wide to the world’s most glamorous festival not because they are actors, directors, producers, designers or the like but simply to feel a part of the festivities by blocking all the streets (grrrr). This just adds to the mayhem that is already Cannes- a 10 day span of premiers, parties, and posh-ness. It was my first time at the Festival (I’ve wanted to attend for years) so I made sure I was fully prepared for wherever the activities may take me (15 outfits for 5days). Hailed as the most dazzling media and social event on the calendar I could not put a foot wrong!
I arrived at my hotel room finding my group in adjoining suites. My group included (amongst others) “The Fast and The Furious” star Michelle Rodriguez and my old university friend turned Hollywood producer, Mohammed Al Turki. I had 30 minutes before we departed to Eva Longoria and Denis Rich’s yacht party. Right. Not having time to do full hair and make-up I had to choose a dress that would be the focal point and be befit for my inaugural dress for Cannes. I decided on aHerve Leger flapper-esque dress in a dusty rose shade. Like all women, I have issues with certain parts of my body. Herve Leger- although painfully fitted- helps to suck in and push out all the right places. I chose a red lip because it’s a quick and easy way to turn yourself out in a glamorous way. After Eva Longoria’s yacht event I had Sean Penn’s Haiti Relief Gala and then Cindy Lauper’s after-party –with such a long evening it was crucial I picked a dress that would take me from boat to black tie charity gala to the disco.
This TFNC London dress at HoF is similar to my look and hits on all the main trends from the Cannes red carpet (all in my next blog)! This sequined dress can work for cocktails, black tie, or late night dancing:
To arrive home before 4am in Cannes is regarded as normal. So after what was regarded as a “normal” evening I got out of bed the next day just in time for Harvey Weinstein and Len Blavatnik’s luncheon for Warner music. My pet peeve with Cannes is women over dressing. The day look should be effortless, Riviera chic and not a ball gown with Chopard jewels (they are the official Cannes partner). For this very intimate lunch of Hollywood heavy hitters I opted for a leather/chiffon dress by BottegaVenetta with chunky gold Chanel and Vanessa Kandiyoti jewellery.
I like this True Decadence pleated button up dress in lavender for £ 49.99 available at HoF. It is day time appropriate for a luncheon, shopping with the girls, or a business meeting. As a fashion TV presenter I wanted to look professional yet fashionable for the Hollywood executives! :
Jazz it up with accessories such as this gold Coast cuff and Mimco hoop earrings both of which are on sale now!
The following day I attended one of the most lavish and important events on the Festival calendar: The Chopard Party held at a secret location which was a castle turned mega-villa. I hit on the ethereal trend in a feathery, blush pink Rohmir number. Early that day I visited the Swarvoski gifting suite and amongst two rooms of crystal treasures (in every colour imaginable!) decided on silver/black cluster drop earrings and a silver crystal cuff. My dress had so much going on the accessories needed to compliment, not compete:
If you want a similarly glamorous yet comfortable look from HoF, try this JS Collection key-hole dress. One always looks at one’s best when we are comfortable! Kelly Brook chose a brighter shade of pink for the night and looked ravishing. It was my first time meeting her and she is even more fun and open then I imagined:
The trip couldn’t be all play, so on Day 4 I took up my presenting hat for Fashion TV. InParlour “glam squad” came to my hotel roomfor some well needed pampering after 4 days of sea, sunshine and some rain. InParlour do not only do red carpet trotters but also private visits for important life moments like Bridal parties. My Fashion TV crew filmed the InParlour team performing the latest trends in hair, make-up and nails on myself and the owner of Fashion TV’s wife, Maria. The latest nail trend: Caviar Nails. After hitting the UK this technique of applying Caviar-like beads to nails has been so popular it has a 20,000 person waiting list on its website. Naturally I felt very honoured, and the sequined beads perfectly matched my FTV microphone as I talked through the key Cannes beauty trends a top the Marriott hotel’s infamous Nikki Beach. For filming—and a cocktail party with Matthew McConaughey later—I chose a rainbow coloured BottegaVenetta cocktail dress.
There is no better way to announce your arrival at a beach or summer party than in this Ted Baker number. But order quick, it’s a best seller on the HoF site:
My final day in Cannes had me presenting live above the Palais de Festival for industry bible Variety. I reported my red carpet fashion round-up for Cannes alongside UK presenters Jane Witherspoon and Jason Solomon. To find out which celebrities made my Best Dressed list, as well as the up-to-the-minute Cannes fashion and beauty trends, check out my next blog up later this week!
