Daily Gossip: Christian Lacroix, the trouble with shoes & Katie Price

Today is a day for chatting…
Christian Lacroix designer to the… railway workers?!
Lacroix has been having a bit of a tough year, the couture house was forced to close all couture and ready-to-wear line production due to financial difficulties. The company will now only act as a licensing operation for accessories and perfumes. But never fear you can still get your hands on Lacroix style, well if you work for French railway SNCF you can. All 20,000 employees will be getting the Lacroix treatment with a range of skirts, blouses, jackets and trousers, all in grey and purple. This is a long way from Christian Lacroix’s extravagant haute couture. What do you make of it? [FabSugarUK]
Your first kiss or your first pair of shoes?
Rather worryingly it has emerged, from research carried out by tszuji.co.uk, that women harbour memories of shoes more than boyfriends. 92% of women remember the first pair of shoes they bought with their own money, whilst only 63% of women remember who their first kiss was with. Even more extreme is that 96% of women regret throwing out a pair of shoes, whilst 15% feel sorry for dumping a boyfriend. This will be partly down to the fact that women tend to buy shoes for special occasions and so place an emotional importance on those shoes. Previous research has found other staggeringly accurate findings; the average woman has 19 pairs of shoes, but only wears four regularly, with a quarter of the shoe collection only being worn once. One in six women has more than 30 pairs of shoes, and on average women tend to purchase four pairs of shoes per year. But let’s be honest, you can never have too many shoes! [Daily Mail]
Has Katie Price influenced you?
Katie Price aka Jordan has been named in the Times People of the Decade list. The list cites the 50 most influential people in the world from the past decade. She has been placed at number 40, sandwiched between Oprah Winfrey and Dan Brown. Other influential names include David Beckham, Jamie Oliver, Jade Goody and Amy Winehouse. Barack Obama takes the number one slot. It is a countdown of the most famous and infamous faces from the last ten years. Each entry has a short blurb, Katie’s reads:
“This is a woman who is beyond embarrassment, modesty or taste. She began as a topless model, now lays claim to be a businesswoman, broadcaster and writer. She has carved out a reputation and a fortune for herself, which makes her a role model for thousands of younger women. She is the apotheosis of fame and money: the sheer bravura of it commands respect.”
Katie Price has certainly managed something quite incredible in ten short years, having created a persona and sold it as a brand. But, is she influential? Do her actions influence our lives? [Times Online]
