Only in Great Britain can it be cloudy, rainy, stormy, humid, sunny, freezing and scorching, all within the space of 48 hours. The only odd variable in the equation is the latter, meaning a heat wave that literally comes and goes in waves, as it pleases!
Although we may not all understand all of the finer points of climate change, we know by now that we can expect temperamental weather in the UK. Yet, we are still taken by such surprise when we’re blasted with a lethargy-inducing spell of heat and humidity.
We don’t begrudge the sun, but we are all agreed that it presents yet another challenging dressing dilemma. Dramas involving maxis with splits, rain-drenched white trousers and partially-see through cotton, broderie anglaise skirts have all been shared in our office.
So, how should we approach dressing for such hot weather? What can we wear to the office in the heat?
Bottom line, your summer work wardrobe must be comfortable, allow freedom for movement and crucially, must not allow colleagues to see too much of you! Think floaty, gypsy blouses, city shorts, long maxi skirts, easy printed shift dresses and sleek, sleeveless tank tops. Pair with leather sandals or ballet flats – no flip-flops or jelly shoes!
Sounds simple enough but perhaps the element of surprise at sudden summer doesn’t allow for adequate wardrobe planning.
Get prepared for the heat with these summery pieces, which will also transition nicely into your AW13 wardrobe!
