When the invitation announces The Sanderson Hotel as the venue, you know it’s going to be a classy affair, and that’s exactly what we got when we attending the Mint Velvet AW13 press day this week. Held in the serene and calming Agua Spa, the tranquil setting reflected the luxurious and grown-up collection from the womenswear brand. Shrouded by white curtains and with mini pool sitting in the centre of the room, the collection was certainly in good company.
Sophisticated outerwear took centre stage with luxurious faux fur and shearling collars popping up on leather jackets, leopard print and parkas were given a modern twist and grown-up gilets gave us endless layering ideas. If the coats didn’t have us longing for winter, then the knitwear certainly did. Touchably soft cashmere blend sweaters in a creamy, neutral colour palette went straight onto our shopping list.
Away from the cosy outerwear, the collection covered the special occasions too. Ladylike dresses featuring floral prints and lace caught our eye, while cute collar detailing makes the perfect day-to-night piece. Dark florals on flowing chiffon would make for the perfect winter wedding look while sheer panels add a hint of subtle sexiness. Statement separates broke up the dresses with heavy embellishment and lots of leather including a to-die-for leather pencil skirt that would look just as good in the office as it would on a night out.
It’s been widely talked about the SS13 has been a washout so far weather wise, but we’re over it. Bring on the cold and wet we say and embrace the delights of AW13.
