If you’re anything like us, your social calendar for the coming months is getting filled up rapidly. Weddings seem to be every other week, followed by garden parties, birthdays, christenings and a possible trip the races. We are in dire need of a chic dress that can get us through the hectic summer season, we’ve got our eye on the Untold bow dress above, perfect for showing off a lightly tanned body.

What you wear to a wedding has become something of a style conundrum, you want to look stylish and fashionable, yet not over the top or out of place. Whether you’re mother-of-the-bride, best friend, sister or guest, we’ve selected some of our favourite dresses that will see you from the wedding to the reception to a garden party or the races. One dress will get you through the whole season, just tweak accessories and make up for a fresh new look.

Colour:

Left to right: Ruffle front shift dress, £60, Oasis, Beaded dress, £125, Almost Famous, Tailored sateen dress, £150, Karen Millen.

This summer, colour is huge, forget those dull blacks of winter we want to see you in a fab brightly coloured dress. Wearing a bright colour will leave you feeling fresh and optimistic. If you opt for simple shapes then the colour won’t be overbearing. Pair with simple neutral accessories and pretty pastel make up. The ruffle front dress from Oasis is the perfect colour, coral suits all skin tones, whilst the Almost Famous beaded dress has a stunning Grecian goddess feel. If you’re loving Mad Men style as much as we are, then this lime number from Karen Millen will have you working that femme fatale look.

Prints:

Left to right: Butterfly maxi dress, £55, Oasis, One shoulder dress, £230, Lauren by Ralph Lauren, Floral prom dress, £130, Linea.

If block colours aren’t your thing, then a print is perfect for the summer season. We’ve seen florals, butterflies and animal prints on the catwalks and are a hot trend. The Oasis maxi dress is great for those looking to cover up but still look glam, paired with metallic gladiator sandals and bangles it will look gorgeous. Lauren by Ralph Lauren’s snakeskin print is so subtle yet so pretty, it looks feminine and will be perfect with either metallic heels or tan wedges. We adore Linea’s 1950s inspired floral dress, a homage to Stepford Wives, it looks feminine and chic, perfect with peep toe heels.

Detailed:

Left to right: Clara-Mae dress, £160, Coast, Layered silk dress, £80, Pied a Terre, Beaded dress, £40, Vero Moda.

If you’re looking for something a bit different, then it’s all in the detail. Opt for pieces with embellishment whether it be sequins, beading or embroidery. Use accessories and jewellery to pull out the embellishment detail. The embroidered dress from Coast is stunning and ideal for hot summer days. The sequin detailing on the Pied a Terre peach dress is more subtle and will look amazing with bronze shoes. The Vero Moda 1920s inspired dress is one of our favourites and really ties in with the nude trend, wear with either towering heels to glam it up, or some silver pumps for a more relaxed look.
